How Often Should You Clean a Chimney in Canada?

For most wood-burning fireplaces, plan a sweep every 50–70 fires or at least annually. In colder provinces or for daily winter use, twice per season is prudent. What Is Creosote and Why It’s Risky

Creosote is a tar-like byproduct of incomplete combustion. Stage 1 is flaky and easier to remove; Stage 2 is crunchy and adheres to liners; Stage 3 is hard, glassy, and highly flammable. Proper burning and regular sweeping reduce accumulation and fire risk.
